Speaking to the heads of Industries and commerce as well as captains of industries during the second Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference (ZEDCON 2) held in Victoria Falls recently, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa said it was time for Zimbabwe to utilise its human and natural resources to develop and modernize the country.
“The theme for this year’s conference public and private resource mobilisation for sustainable development underscores the need for all of us to explore and expand avenues for accessing resources for sustainable development of our country.
This further calls for us to generate and accelerate growth through the utilization of our vast human and natural resources in our country. We must meet this obligation in spite of the fact that our country remains under the yoke of illegal sanctions,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa also said Zimbabweans should think about building their country leaving no place and nobody behind.
“I have realised that the speakers that spoke before me have realised that Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo, tisu Venevayo, and that we must think about how to build our country leaving no place and nobody behind… Those who would want to assist us should come and assist us on our own programme which we would have casted ourselves, that way we will blame nobody but ourselves at the pace at which we will develop our country”, said the President.
President Mnangagwa said that this year’s conference was going to tackle challenges affecting the economy such as the exchange rate, inflation and interest rates.
“It is commendable that the conference covers thematic areas on pertinent issues affecting our economy such as the exchange rate, inflation as well as interest rates and how these impact on financing for sustainable development in our country,” said President Mnangagwa.
ZEDCON 2 was hosted by the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion from 01 October to 03 October 2023 and Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls.
