Gweru residents will have to soldier on regarding the water situation following the bursting of the main water supply water pipe at Gwenoro.
For almost two weeks now, the residents have been queuing at various water boreholes and other water sources in order to get water for household use.
Speaking to ZANU PF Information and Publicity Department, the Gweru City Council Public Relations Manager, Vimbai Chingwaramusee said work is currently being done to alleviate the problem.
"We have had a burst pipe at Gwenoro and are currently excavating the ground to get to the nine meter depth. It's a 600 mm pipe which supplies the City and unfortunately, no alternatives can be done at the moment since this is the major pipe that feeds into the main system," the Public Relations Manager said.
"We are also saying that the current water reticulation system is very old, built in 1965, and we need to replace that system and funds permitting. we will do that in the year 2024."
Gweru is the capital city of the Midlands Province. The city has a population of 158,200 as of the 2022 census. In 1914, it attained municipal status, and in 1971, it became a city.
