First lady spearheads road safety campaign.....as festive season begins
_By Ransom Mandhlazi FIRST Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, together with the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Republic Police urged motorists and passengers to ensure safety on the road this festive season to reduce carnage.Speaking to passengers, drivers to mark the start of the road safety awareness campaign in the run-up to the festive season, First Lady visited four major roads tollgates, which links the capital city, Harare.First Lady began the tour at Skyline Tollgate, Harare Masvingo highway, to Norton tollgate (Harare- Bulawayo), to Mazowe tollgate (Harare- bandura highway), before processing to Goromonzi tollgate (Harare-Mutare highway), where she interacted with motorists and passengers, emphasising to them the importance of practicing safety on the roads.First lady was accompanied by several church leaders, who led in prayers for safety on the road during this festive season.The gesture by First Lady marked the beginning of the festive season road traffic safety awareness campaign.Road traffic accidents claim hundreds of lives and leave hundreds more injured during the festive season annually.First lady highlighted that among the major causes of accidents on the roads is human error while also encouraging operators and motorists to drive roadworthy vehicles.Road users have welcomed the initiative by the First Lady, saying the move will go a long way in reducing carnage during this festive season.Amai Mnangagwa is being accompanied on the awareness campaign trail by the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
