Empowering church women for Zimbabwe's economic development

By Margaret Kamba

In a move aimed at empowering the church woman to be that woman described in Proverbs woman, the Johanne the 5th of Africa church has embarked on numerous empowerment projects.

The church which is dotted in the SADC region, has seen the women acquiring skills aimed at making them self-sufficient and helping to develop not only their households but their countries.

Speaking in an interview the lady Archbishop Loveness Maisire said "Taking a leaf from our First Lady, Her Excellency Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, we saw it fit as a church yo empower our women so that they contribute meaningfully to their households and country whether or not their husbands are there," she said.

"We have women the church running different projects and teaching our children our culture."

The Secretary General Sharon Kamupiwa added that "Numerous projects among them garment making, detergent manufacturing, chicken breeding and money-saving clubs were being done."

She added that the church had also engaged the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank to provide loans to the women in the church which they would return for the fund to be sustainable."
