By Lonias Rozvi Majoni Returning Zimbabweans who have been in the Diaspora, UK in particular are demanding condoms in their quarantine bases. According to a broadcast by the ZTN, the returnees finished four whole cartons of the precious sheath, in a wolf-like voracious style. It has shocked the nation that at a critical time like this where people are appealing for Personal Protective Equipment, PPEs, to combat Covid19, the fellow returning citizens are scrounging for the genital plastic and rubber Protective Clothing. The returnees are said to be in need for the sexual protective clothing, sparking fears that they are overlooking the directive of social distancing which is regarded as key towards curbing the spread of the virus. This has torched storm as this behavior and demands by the returnees exposes them to the danger of spreading the virus amongst themselves, during the quarantine period. The Secretary for Social Welfare, Zimbabwe, Mr Simon Masanga is reported to have confessed ignorance pertaining to the strange demolishing of condoms in a space of 24 hours. He also added that the quarantine centers are not Military Bases where it’s easy to enforce discipline, hence the loopholes which have resulted in suspected erotic escapades. A few days ago, returnees from UK, including anarchist and so called civil disobedience bombardiers led by elements that physically harassed the Minister of Foreign Affairs Cde SB Moyo in London rejected their 21 day quarantine stay at the prestigious Belvedere Teacher’s College, demanding porsche treatment in private five star Hotels. Now that the cat has been let out of the bag; one will not be wrong for assuming that the absurd requests for flamboyant and private hotels by the Euro-based returnees in question, is a clear explanation behind the consequential rapacious demand for Porsche facilities. Be that as it may, they need to be reminded that this not a honey-moon period. Rather, the country is at war against this Covid19 pandemic hands no time for palace treatment. Our local Zimbabweans have conditioned to all that they are getting through including basic commodities because they understand that at the core of government and President Mnangagwa’s efforts is to protect them from potential infection and secure their lives. No citizen is special to the other. At least they must be aware that they are running away from the first world classy facilities characterized by nice hotels and top class hospitals to our own facilities which some of them have berated over time. Home sweet home.
