ZANU PF Central Committee member and Founder for Murefu Rehabilitation and Empowerment Foundation Cde Jimayi Muduvuri says he is targeting all the ten Provinces in his quest to provide relief for the disabled and disadvantages persons during this Corona Virus period. Over 500 people have already benefited from the programme which has seen provisions among them mealie-meal and cooking oil being given. “We are targeting all ten Provinces and so far we have covered Harare Province where 100 people benefitted, Mashonaland East 250 people and Mashonaland Central with 300 people,” Cde Muduvuri said. “In all the places where we are going, the message that we are carrying is that they must learn to do things for themselves. We are giving them something but they should know that disability is not inability. We are also setting up committees that will work with the Party through the Department of Welfare of the Disabled and Disadvantaged Persons and Department of Social Welfare in the different districts, branches and cells. I have learnt that support can come but more should be done by me as an individual.” It is estimated about 900 000 to 1.4 million people have some sort of disability in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is Party to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). Disability exists in Zimbabwe mainly due to diseases, war conflicts, malnutrition, accidents, abnormal births, hereditary characteristics.
