Secretary General of the ruling ZANU PF Party Cde Obert Mpofu has congratulated the President and First Secretary, His Excellency, Cde E.D Mnangagwa for leading a successful campaign which rendered his victory in the August 2023 Harmonized General Elections. President Mnangagwa won with a 52,6 percent margin.
"I would like to congratulate His Excellency President and First Secretary Dr E.D Mnangagwa for leading team ZANU PF to victory, this is testament to the confidence the people of Zimbabwe have in his leadership ability. I would like to congratulate comrades gathered here today for playing a critical role in ensuring that ZANU PF has a resounding victory," Cde Mpofu said.
"We want to commend our National Political Commissar Cde Dr Mike Bimha and his team for facilitating and coordinating our activities during the campaign period.
"We also welcome the cabinet chosen by His Excellency President and First Secretary Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa to lead government business on behalf of the Party. We also want to congratulate the new Ministers in their eandeavour as they support the President's vision of turning Zimbabwe into an upper middle income economy by 2030."
Cde Mpofu added that the victory shows the confidence the people have in President Mnangagwa.
"Our electoral victory did not only show the confidence our people have in His Excellency, President and First Secretary Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa but it also showed the extent to which our detractors are willing to see our Party crumble," the Secretary General said.
"This is evidenced by the Mumba report, which is not the SADC report because it does not represent the views of the entire SADC region.
"Whilst the Party receives the so called preliminary SADC report by Dr Nevers Mumba, we would like to also state our dissatisfaction with the fact that the Party's views were not reflected. The Party remains unapologetic in its stance on the exclusion of ZANU PF's perspective in the Mumba report."
Cde Mpofu urged "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade through the External Affairs department to ensure that the final report is tabled to the SADC Troika, ZANU PF's disenfranchisement is raised. Indeed, through this election season, we have observed who our true friends are and would like to single out and thank South Africa and the ANC for continuing to stand with Zimbabwe. The support and solidarity form South Africa and the ANC has shown us that SA is a brother and we will support the ANC and South Africa in their election next year."
