FIVE suspected cases of the Covid-19 virus have tested negative allaying fears that Zimbabwe will record its first cases of the pandemic.Four of the tested samples which came negative are from Victoria Falls while the fifth is from Bulawayo. Responding to questions at the ZANU PF Covid-19 Awareness Campaign Launch, Dr Phiri from the Ministry of Health Epidemiology Department said tests results from the samples had come in negative."We have received the results from the five suspected cases from Victoria Falls and Bulawayo this morning and they are negative". Dr Phiri said the Ministry was on high alert and was monitoring all the people who enter the country from countries that have recorded covid-19 cases. He said since January the Ministry has monitored over 9000 people and sent 14 samples for testing and fortunately all have come out negative. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared a state of disaster over covid-19 even though the country is yet to record a case of the deadly pandemic which has wrought havoc globally. As part of measures to contain the pandemic in the country, the President announced restrictions on social gatherings until further notice.Schools and universities will also close next week Tuesday as President Mnangagwa operationalises his prevention strategy.
