FOLLOWING the visit by First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa in China last month, a leading Chinese agricultural company, China Lesso Group is in the country to explore and help Zimbabwe adopt China’s advanced irrigation technology and to mitigate against effects of climate change.China Lesso Group, is a Hong Kong stock exchange listed firm, which specialises in agricultural equipment, home appliances and poly vinyl chloride (PVC) products.The Chinese business delegation, is on a five day working visit which will see them visit several farms across the country to ascertain the type of equipment which is needed in the country's farming regions.The visit by the Chinese firms is reciprocal, following a visit to China by a Zimbabwe business delegation led by First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, who is passionate about Zimbabwe’s economic revival.Speaking after receiving the Chinese delegation at the Robert Mugabe International Airport, Amai Mnangagwa highlighted that Agriculture was the backbone of the country’s economy, and it was high time to introduce technologically advanced machinery to avert the effects of climate change."I want to thank Lesso Company for their swift response following my visit to China, which is barely three weeks. This shows the commitment, love between the two countries and the respect for my visit,” she added.The First Lady said the visit by the Chinese delegation was timely as it coincided with the farming season in the country.“Agriculture is the backbone of this country, I urge the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Settlement to utilise such an opportunityI am therefore handing over the delegation to the Ministry of Agriculture." said the First Lady.First Lady Amai Mnangagwa said several companies like the China Lesso Group, are expected to visit the country in the coming months to explore several business opportunities in the country.The Lesso Group showed willingness to set plants in Zimbabwe.The group also showed willingness to offer training to relevant ministries on agriculture and irrigation through their International Research Institute.The First Lady said she was moving with the ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ mantra, saying if the country was developed, it could take advantage of its geographical position to trade with other countries.Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Climate and Rural Resettlement representative, Mrs Madeline Magwenzi said China Lesso Group displayed advanced technology in the irrigation sector during their visit to China, highlighting that such partnerships will help end effects of drought in the country.China Lesso secretary General Tang Hai Bo, who is leading the delegation highlighted his company expressed willingness to work with Zimbabwe in the field of agriculture.
