President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged SADC member states to remain United and condemn all forms of terrorism being perpetrated Mozambique which is currently under threat from an Islamic insurgency operating in its northern Cabo Delgado Province had their government channeled a formal request for support to the regional body being Chair   Recently President Mnangagwa held a meeting with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi in Chimoio, where they discussed the security situation in Cabo Delgado and parts of Mozambique’s Manica and Sofala provinces.   Giving his opening remarks on the Sadc troika summit on defence and security development President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the region must uphold the brotherhood culture that has in the past prevailed in overcoming the diabolic plots of the enemy. President Mnangagwa who is the Chair of the Sadc organ on defence and security development has also emphasized that the region must work in unison and continue support each other in different areas of defence and security matters. President Mnangagwa also thanked his counterpart President Phillipe Nyusi of Mozambique for accepting the invitation and attending the summit saying that it shows clear demonstration of the importance of Sadc in dealing with the issues affecting the Republic of Mozambique.   “Let me thank our brother President Nyusi for joining us today and for accepting our invitation to this extra ordinary organ of sadc troika. The formal presentation of this matter to Sadc is a clear demonstration of the trust that Mozambique has in SADC structures support and solidarity and Ability to work together to deal with some of these threats. “Your Excellences the threat of terrorism has in the past become assumed greater proportions regions that previously did not receive the seriousness of the threat or seem immune to terrorism are being targeted “The threat is now becoming increasingly complex blaring boundaries between political, religious and crime,” said President Mnangagwa. President Mnangagwa also advised the region to be on fully alert in remaining united shoulder to shoulder in the spirit of brotherhood to overcome all forms of terrorism which has brought a worrying situation of security peace cooperation and development within the region. In his closing remarks President Mnangagwa reiterated the need for the region to reflect on the most pressing challenges and impediment to socio-economic and political progress affecting the region and map the way forward in a peacefully environment. "We further reaffirmed our commitment towards strengthening peace, security and stability in Mozambique and also reiterated our pledge to continue building trust and fostering cooperation in addressing threats to regional and international peace and security. “This is all testimony that our cooperation within SADC is robust and informed by the rich heritage which stems out of the founding principles of our August regional body. Indeed, regular engagements play a critical role in maintaining the momentum in our collective quest to ensure economic growth, sustainable peace, safety and the security of our region" said President Mnangagwa. The summit was also attended by Zambian President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, Botswana President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi as well as Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the respective countries.
