Key highlights from President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, His Excellency, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s speech
- President Mnangagwa mourned the late Namibian President His Excellency, Dr. Hage Geingob describing him as a revolutionary par excellence, a freedom fighter and brave son of Namibia.
- He added that Zimbabwe, the SADC region and the African Continent had lost a consistent and dependable ally, a steadfast, principled statesman and Pan Africanist.
- President Mnangagwa commended the Politburo, our Party membership and the election mobilisation teams for the victories recorded in the by-elections held earlier this year which he said were reflective of the Party’s effective mobilisation strategies and the continued strength of our colossal revolutionary mass Party.
- He urged the Party from our grassroots structures to remain people-oriented and spread the wings of our revolutionary movement by pro- actively addressing their development concerns in order to improve the quality of life for them.
- President Mngangagwa noted that this year's Independence Celebrations will be held in Murambinda, Manicaland Province giving an opportunity to celebrate our rich liberation war history with the ordinary people at the grassroots level, who remain the true beneficiaries of all our efforts.
- He said the Party is scaling up the development of our local capacities and capabilities guided by our international relations philosophy, 'Friend to all and enemy of none as evidenced by the exploitation of the immense opportunities in the international markets and global value chains.
- He briefed the Politburo on his recent engagements among them the National Youth Day held in Masvingo Province.
- He congratulated the Youth League and the young people of Zimbabwe for a superb demonstration of organisational ability and clarity of intentions.
- He urged the young people to continue on this trajectory and harness the demographic dividend, diverse skills and youthful zeal to propel nation-building programmes and projects.
- He took time to express his interest in officiating at programmes of the Women's League, Veterans of the Liberation Struggle and Affiliates, working in conjunction with the Commissariat.
- President Mnangagwa added that the successful programme with Chiefs in Matabeleland South and North regarding the post-independence disturbances is reflective of ZANU PF's commitment to unity.
- Speaking on the 2023/2024 summer cropping season, President Mnangagwa said it is imperative that no one dies of hunger.
- He commended the farmers for their resilience and hard work.
Moving onto international scene, President Mnangagwa said his recent participation at various Global Summits highlights the success of our Engagement and Re-Engagement Policy which is positively impacting overall investments and partnerships across all sectors of the economy.
-He commended the move by various friendly nations from the region and beyond for the unconditional removal of sanctions which he said is much appreciated.
- Commenting on the UNCA Conference for Ministers of Finance and Economic Development, as well as the International Renewable Energy Conference currently underway in Victoria Falls, the First Secretary said the overwhelming attendance is proof of the vote of confidence in our country.
