We are committed to promoting social protection: President Mnangagwa

By Margaret Kamba

ZANU PF First Secretary and President His Excellency Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa says his government is committed to promoting improving fair labor standards and social protection.

In his International Workers Day speech, President Mnangagwa highlighted that decent work is a strong pillar to the country's economic growth.

International Workers Day is commemorated every year on the first of May with the aim of appreciating the men and women who work tirelessly to build their economies.

"Today, Zimbabwe joins the rest of the world in commemorating International Workers Day. It is a time when we honor and salute all workers who continue to play critical roles in driving our economy, shaping communities, and supporting the social fabric of our society," President Mnangagwa said.

"May Day is also a time to pay homage to Labor who are central to the production processes and value chains across all sectors, for the ultimate growth of our Motherland, Zimbabwe.

"As such, Decent Work is a core principle under the Growth and Stability Pillar of the National Development Strategy. It remains a building block for the attainment of our national vision as well as inclusive growth, poverty reduction and the consolidation of a sustainable and competitive economy."

President Mnangagwa added that strides have been registered in improving the labour conditions for workers.

"To date, under the National Development Strategy, an array of milestones have been achieved which are transforming livelihoods, leaving noone and no place behind. We are unwavering in our commitment to guarantee fair labour standards, strengthen social protection and enhance social dialogue towards the attainment of decent work."
