The latest move must result in improved livelihoods: Cde Mpofu

By Margaret Kamba

ZANU PF Secretary General Cde Obert Mpofu says the latest economic intervention must result in improved livelihoods of the Zimbabwean people.

He said these remarks during the Policy and Coordinating meeting at the Party headquarters this Monday morning.

His remarks also follow the recent announcement by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor John Mushayavanhu on the different currency denominations scheduled to begin use at the end of this month.

'On Friday, the 5th of April 2024, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe launched a new currency for the country, termed Zimbabwe Gold ZiG. The introduction of the new currency is aimed at curbing inflation as well as ensuring that any economic gains made thus far are maintained. We hope that this latest intervention will result in improved livelihoods for our people as we forge towards vision 2030," Cde Mpofu said.

"This latest move by the RBZ has certainly renewed hope in Zimbabwe's currency. We should also ensure that we guard this new currency from the machinations of our saboteurs who are still bent on crippling our economy as part of their regime change antics."

Meanwhile, some churches have also welcomed this development with Johane the 5th of Africa founder Archbishop Andby Makururu highlighting that this move instills confidence in the people of Zimbabwe.

"We are proud and happy that the country has a new currency. It was said in prophecy that things would be hard but that President Emmerson Mnangagwa would be able to fulfill the aspirations of the Zimbabwean people. We are therefore happy to see some of these prophesies fulfilled as we are no longer a laughing stock as being a country without a currency."
