His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has challenged other local authorities in Zimbabwe to take a leaf from the Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd model which is successfully providing a safer and cleaner environment for Harare.
President Mnangagwa made these remarks when he officially opened the restaurant at the waste management site this Thursday.
He said the development work displayed speaks volumes about the company's innovativeness and commitment towards building the country and achieving an upper middle income society by 2030.
"The successful construction of this restaurant, in particular, speaks volumes about Geo-Pomona as a trailblazing company, un-afraid to venture in hitherto, uncharted waters. The facelift and infrastructure constructed here, stand as an example of our national development philosophy: “Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo / Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhu-le-ke-lwe ngabanikazi balo.” Well done," President Mnangagwa said.
"I look forward to witnessing broader inclusivity in all these initiatives, such that other local authorities, benefit from the model we are witnessing. Coupled with the Environmentally Sustainable Innovations that we all have seen; I have no doubt that this restaurant, The Sprout, will serve as a symbol of progress and adds another feather in the hat of our well performing tourism and hospitality industry. I challenge players in the hospitality and food sectors to deliberately source materials from our local farmers."
President Mnangagwa commended the company for its tremendous growth and creating employment for the local people.
"The strides made so far, by Geo-Pomona Company towards employment creation are worthy of commendation, rising from six employees, in 2022, to the current, 1 200 employees. I urge you to continue with the culture of employing people from the surrounding communities.
"Allow me to take the opportunity of this event to recognise and congratulate the development milestones, we are also witnessing in the Pomona Industrial Development Corridor. The infrastructure constructed and new businesses established in these environs since the Second Republic are testament of the confidence that investors have in our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe. This has created jobs for many young people. Well done.
"Additionally, following my Government’s modernisation and reconstruction of roads, across cities and towns, I urge all stakeholders to ensure that the modern ambience in these respective areas is maintained. This should include the construction of suitable public transport sheds at designated stopping points, for road users. Equally, the efficient flow of traffic should be maintained and bottlenecks avoided. Finally, I once again congratulate Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited and all its partners involved in this transformative initiative and new restaurant, “The Sprout.”
