His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa today received Judith Todd, daughter of the late Prime Minister of Southern Rhodesia and pro-nationalist politician, Dr Garfield Todd.

It was an emotional encounter replete with banter. An age-mate of the President, Judith temporarily lost her walking stick to the Zimbabwean leader: “You don’t need this thing Judith; you are much younger than I am!”, quipped the President as he wrestled the walking stick from Judith.

Cde Manikai arranged for the historic encounter between His Excellency and the politician-writer who is said to have suffered bouts of imprisonment during UDI days for siding with nationalist politics in the then settler colony.

The Todd family has a strong missionary background and played a key role in founding African education, typified by the iconic Dadaya Mission which Sir Garfield Todd founded.
