By Shadreck GurenjePresident Emmerson Mnangagwa has discouraged special covid-19 essential commodities manufactures from charging exorbitant prices taking advantage of the current lethal health threat that has rocked the nation and the world.The call comes after local sanitary wear manufacturers, pharmacies and black markets are on daily basis hiking prices milking innocent citizens.Giving his opening remarks to the ordinary session of the Politburo at the Party Headquarters, ZANU PF First Secretary, President Mnangagwa appeals to all citizens to exercise social responsibility particularly the manufacturers and traders of essential commodities that plays a pivotal role in the fight of the deadly coronavirus.“I continue to appeal to all citizens to exercise social responsililty.Those involved in the manufacturing and trading of essential commodities such as masks, sanitizers among other items are dissuaded from charging exorbitant prices.“Government has released additional resources towards the procurement of safety clothing. We are grateful to many the health services personnel who are at the frontline of addressing this pandemic.Thier concerns and those of our nation have been noted and will be addressed,” said President Mnangagwa.President Mnangagwa also urge the nation to embrace measures put in place by government meant to minimise the effect of the virus.As from last week most pharmacies did not have masks in stock while those that did had priced them exorbitantly.In Mbare Musika a dozen of lemon has been packed at 50bond which is thrice from the original 15bond price the same to ginger garlic and paprika.Three-ply masks were going for US$5 or the equivalent in local currency using black market rates, while the more advanced N95 respirators were out of stock in all the pharmacies visited.Sanitizers ranged between $400 and US$25 per one-litre bottle in different pharmacies.The smallest containers of sanitizers a 50-millilitre bottle averaged US$3.
