MALAWI AND ZIMBABWE WORKING ON STRENGTHENING THEIR RELATIONSHIP

Malawi is working on strengthening its relationship with Zimbabwe so as to improve people’s lives, revealed a Malawian Cabinet Minister.   Malawian Foreign Minister Honourable Eseinhower Mkaka said this after paying a courtesy call on Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Honourable Lieutenant General (Rtd) Dr. Sibusiso Moyo at his Munhumutapa offices in Harare, where he highlighted that the meeting was on strengthening the relationship between the two countries.   This resonates well with the First Secretary of ZANU PF and President His Excellency Cde E.D Mnangagwa who during his presentation at UNGA last week highlighted that humanity is at a crossroads confronted   President Mnangagwa went on to say that multilateralism is under threat from the blind pursuit of narrow interests, therefore there is need to strengthen international amity and goodwill as well as uphold mutual respect and observe the sovereign equality of states.   “We have been dormant and we have been a sleeping giant. If we work together economically and socially, we are going to improve upon the lives of our people. That will only happen if we as countries take deliberate steps towards working together in cooperation. This is to reinforce our conviction that we need each other as neighbours,” said Minister Mkaka.   He went on to say the two countries share a long history that is why they should work together.   “Zimbabwe and Malawi share a long history. Way back before we got colonised, we interacted, the Maravi Kingdom (of Malawi) and the Munhumutapa Kingdom (of Zimbabwe), but the colonisers came and they made a federation of us, a federation of Rhodesia and a federation of Nyasaland. So we have a lot in common and we have a most reason to work together and that is the main reason we are coming,” he said.
