Let's be wary and cautious: Cde Mpofu

By Margaret Kamba

The Secretary General for the ruling Party, ZANU PF has emphasized on the need for the Party not to relax as it prepares for the 9 December by-elections.

Many candidates have already been fielded to represent ZANU PF with campaigns already launched.

Speaking during the Policy and Coordinating meeting at the Party headquarters this Monday morning, the Secretary General said the Party will continue with a robust campaign and engagement exercise ahead of the polls.

"The December 9th by-elections are upon us. Unlike in the previous years, by this time, the Party should be winding down its activities for the year in preparation for the festive season. However, due to the chaos erupting the opposition CCC, we find ourselves quite busy with our hands full. I am happy to report that members have been doing a tremendous job of mobilizing and campaigning for the Party’s candidates in the upcoming by-elections. It is indeed all hands-on-deck as we try to push for a two-thirds majority in the House of Assembly," Cde Mpofu said.

"As promising as it looks, we should not relax but should push on, full throttle to ensure that we attain as many seats from these by-elections as possible. We should be nevertheless wary and cautious as this does not guarantee us outright victory, and hence, we should work hard to ensure that we leverage on this situation and turn it to our favour. We should render as much support as we can to the Party’s candidates and ensure that they emerge victorious.

"The December 9 by-elections not only give the opportunity to correct some of our mistakes on the August 2023 elections but are also a good way to prepare for the 2028 elections, especially in those Constituencies that seem to be problematic. All the same, a ZANU PF victory is all but guaranteed."

The opposition has already fielded double opposition candidates in Bulawayo South, Cowdray Park, Lobengula-Magwegwe, Mpopoma-Mzilikazi and Nketa Constituencies in Bulawayo Province giving ZANU PF an added advantage.
