IT IS AN HONOUR: CDE MAHIYA

ZANU PF Secretary for War Veterans Cde Douglas Mahiya has commended the commencement of the artifacts collection of the liberation struggle saying it will go a long way in preserving the history for future generations. Many countries have preserved the liberation or independence stories and inculcate that history as children grow in order to perpetuate a sense of pride, patriotism and belonging. Speaking during the Ministerial Press Conference on the Commencement of a Campaign to Record Oral History and Collect Liberation War Artifacts for Museum of African Liberation, Cde Mahiya said that this gives honour to the war veterans. "Section 23 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe speaks of honour, recognition and respect of the Veterans of the Struggle. This came about after the drafting on the New Constitution. We feel honoured, respected and recognised by the establishment of this Museum of African Liberation History," he said. "It is important in imparting history to young generations. It should be a tool of neo-colonialism resistance. Africa must find lasting solutions to defend the objectives of the Liberation Struggle. "The Museum of African Liberation History should assist in bringing closure to the episode of the Armed Struggle, particularly towards finding lasting solutions to liberators through rehabilitation programmes and poverty alleviation initiatives." Cde Mahiya thanked the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde E.D Mnangagwa for fulfilling one of the desires of the War Veterans of having a Veterans League in the Party.
