Infrastructure must match investment: Ambassador Mutsvangwa

By Margaret Kamba

Secretary for Information and Publicity Ambassador Chris Mutsvangwa says there is an urgent need to match the local infrastructure to the level of investment the county is getting.

His remarks follow concerns raised by various stakeholders about the road and rail infrastructure, electricity and water which they say is crucial for the country's development.

"President Mnangagwa is transforming this country and there is an urgent need for our infrastructure to be in tandem with the investment he is bringing," Ambassador Mutsvangwa said.

"The situation between Bulawayo and Hwange is a matter of urgency because Zimbabwe's life starts in Hwange. The President has been putting a lot of investment in Hwange with the steel plant, corking coal and the production of 500 000 tonnes in 36 months. The Ministry of Transport should have seen this crisis but the infrastructure is not matching the investment. The Ministry should plan in tandem with the President's vision," Ambassador Mutsvangwa said.

The Information Secretary added that Zimbabwe needs to tap into the wealth of experience of the Mozambicans who built the Machipanda-Beira railway line as well as recently the railway line to Blantyre, since the products produced in Zimbabwe will need to be shipped to global markets.
