HONOUR TO ZIMBABWE'S GALLANT HEROES AND HEROINES

The month of Zimbabwe's gallant sons and daughters is here. We remember them for their selfless sacrifices which made many of them never return to their homes. We remember them for their bravery which made them face the enemy head on until they achieved the independence we enjoy today. This is the month of August wherein we reverence Zimbabwe's gallant sons and daughters for their astounding sacrifices which has made us free in our motherland. We remember the gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe for their contributions to the liberation struggle which when narrated to us, remain fiction because of our inability to follow in those same steps. They are narratives that leave us in awe and tears as we can only imagine the pain that they went through. The unfortunate ones were taken for continued torture, braved the prison boxes where they endured the darkness that made many go mad literally. Lucky were some who returned never mind the lost limb or minds, bullet scars, lost eyesight but at least they returned. Many are still unknown where they lie in order for proper burials to be conducted. Lucky ones are found in disused mine shafts. Many died because they refused to give up information to the settler-regime’s soldiers where the freedom fighters were camped. Many died for feeding them. It's not your choice to be shot in broad daylight or burnt to death in the round huts but yes many did die while aiding the fight for independence. Innocent people were brutally murdered for Zimbabwe to be independent and for that reason we guard its sovereignty jealously. Ian Douglas Smith’s never in ‘thousand years’ was demystified through the priceless sacrifices of the sons and daughters of this our blessed motherland. The hoisting of the Zimbabwean flag, emblazoned with colours that represent peace, black majority rule, our mineral wealth and heritage, was done for the sacrifices of the men and women dead and living, we honour this month. It is, without any shred of doubt, an important month on our calendar. Thank you to all the men and women macomrade, vana mujibha ana baba nanamai vakazvipira kuti tiwane rusununguko. Obaba labomama abalwela inkululeko yelizwe lethu. The men and women who sacrificed their lives for us. We salute you!
