Gwanda Defence Forces commemorations

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South Province, Honourable Albert Nguluvhe, officiated at the Defence Day commemorations held at Phelelandaba Stadium in Gwanda.

The occasion was marked with great patriotism, unity, and reverence for the gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe who contributed to the nation’s liberation and defence.

In his official capacity, Honourable Nguluvhe conferred 200 Independence Medals to War Veterans, War Collaborators, Ex-Detainees, and Non-Combatants in recognition of their unwavering sacrifice and dedication to the freedom and sovereignty of Zimbabwe. The medal recipients, representing a cross-section of the province’s liberation heroes, were honoured for their courage, resilience, and service to the nation during its formative years and beyond.

The Defence Day proceedings were a powerful reminder of the importance of safeguarding the hard-won independence and peace that Zimbabwe enjoys today.

The ceremony also served as an opportunity to reaffirm the nation’s commitment to unity, development, and the preservation of the values for which the liberation struggle was fought. Through such commemorations, the province and the nation at large continue to celebrate and uphold the legacy of those who answered the call to serve and defend Zimbabwe.
