Co-options unprocedural-SG Mpofu

By Ransom Mandhlazi

ZANU PF Secretary General Cde Dr Obert Mpofu said most co-options which were done across the provinces were unprocedural, hence the Party is looking into the matter.

Addressing the Policy and Co-ordination meeting, Dr Mpofu, in his remarks read by Secretary for Finance Cde Patrick Chinamasa, highlighted that his office has been receiving complaints from the provinces on the way co-options were undertaken.

"Recently, complaints about unprocedural co-options made within provinces have been brought to my office. It has come to my attention that these co-options have been made without following the proper procedures," said SG Mpofu.

He said the office of the National Political Commissar is seized with the matter.

The Revolutionary Party is currently undertaking restructuring exercise, beginning with party cells and villages to ensure that all members, regardless of their positions, are registered in the party structures.

Every year, the ruling party embarks on a cell verification exercise to account for its membership, both the old ones and those joining the party. The move seeks to take stock of the party’s membership in line with its constitutional dictates.

During that phase, co-options are normally done by Party organs, thus Youth league, Women league, and War Veterans league.

The provincial structures, DCC also undertake co-options, but have to follow the Party constitution on how it is done.
