THE nation is ready to celebrate the National Youth Day tomorrow, the 21st of February 2020, with various activities pencilled across the country, according to Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Hon. Kirsty Coventry.Hon. Kirsty Coventry said the National Youth day is an occasion to celebrate the contributions of youths in the political and socio-economic development of the country. She said youths must honour the gallant fighters who fought for independence through working hard for the common good of the country.“The Day which falls on 21 February every year was set aside by Government in 2017 in order to celebrate the contributions of young people to the political and socio-economic development of the nation dating back from the days of the liberation struggle.“It is thus incumbent upon the youth of these gallant fighters by working hard for the common good of the nation and continues to safeguard Zimbabwe’s sovereignty. The day is also an opportune moment for young people to reflect on the leadership qualities that they need to emulate”.She said the main celebrations will be held at Mufakose Youth in Harare centre while each Province will host an event in line with the government’s new thrust to decentralise national activities.Further, minister Coventry said government will revamp 40 youth centres across the country to ensure young people network in a safe environment.“This year the ministry will focus on revamping 4 youth centres in each province to ensure that youth can network in a safe environment. The Mufakose Youth centre will be revamped with the addition of a computer building, a new netball and basketball court”.Some of the activities expected at the National Youth Day events include sporting and musical performances, exhibitions, mentoring and career guidance. The events will also accommodate important stakeholders and service providers such as Government departments, development partners and civic organisations.
