As we count down to this year’s National Youth Day, Mhondoro-Mubaiwa Member of Parliament Cde Chamu Chiwanza says the youth need to reflect deeply about what they can do for their country just like their forefathers did.
Speaking during an interview Cde Chiwanza said His Excellency President E.D Mnangagwa serves as a good example of how young people can contribute to the development of their country.
"The youth of this country must reminisce looking at the past to understand what it means to be a youth of Zimbabwe. What was the contribution of the youth then to be where we are today. As people who are growing in this environment we need to understand where does this peace come from for us to call ourselves entrepreneurs," Cde Chimwanza said.
"There's somebody who sacrificed. The perfect example of the President of this country His Excellency President E.D Mnangagwa is a man who was sentenced to death. The only thing that saved him was age. So if you can understand that. What age was he when he decided to sacrifice and go and make sure there's freedom in this country that we are enjoying and he is a perfect example. So for the youth of this country to be doing mutoriro and other drugs, they must understand what it is that is happening. What has caused this moral degradation? If he at his age could along with others who had nothing and no shoes take up arms and free this country, the onus is upon us the youth of this country not for the government to create jobs, not for the government to contribute to give us anything but for us to contribute significantly to the economic development of this of this country."
National Youth Day will be celebrated under the theme "Positioning youth empowerment and development towards vision 2030."
